Traditional Materials Gathering Walk
April 25 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm | Register here
Join us for a spring walk on our Nisqually River shoreline protected lands to learn about cedar bark gathering with Nisqually tribal member Hanford McCloud, weaver of traditional materials, of the Coast Salish people. Hanford will demonstrate how he uses traditional, sustainable methods to gather materials as native peoples have done since time immemorial. Hanford, one of our NLT Board members, has been gathering materials and weaving traditional hats and baskets since he was twelve years old.
Dress for the weather, wear good hiking shoes and bring walking sticks, if desired. Water and light snacks will be provided. Minors are welcome provided they are accompanied by an adult. Please be aware there are no restrooms on site.
Where: Nisqually River Shoreline – Yelm (Please register for directions)
Accessibility: Mostly flat, uneven ground on unpaved trail, close to parking location
Please reach out to or (360) 489-3400 with any questions. We hope to see you there!
